Go to the Find a Group page to search for groups that suit your interests, experiences or location.
You can also explore organisations and networks connected with the kind of peer support you are looking for.
Every peer group is different. Think about what you want from a group and what would help you participate. You might want to know who the group is for, what happens at meetings, where and how it meets, what accessibility is available and whether you can try the group before committing as a member.
It’s okay to decide that a group is not right for you.
Yes. You can contact the organiser to ask questions, discuss accessibility or find out what to expect. You do not need to tell them your whole story. A simple message saying that you are interested in the group and would like some information is enough.
You can ask anything that will help you decide whether and how to participate. For example:
What usually happens at a meeting?
Do I need to register?
Can I bring a support person?
What accessibility is available?
Who can I contact if I need help on the day?
Gather all the information you need before you say yes.
Some peer groups meet online and others meet face-to-face. If you are joining online, you can ask what platform the group uses, whether you need to download anything, what accessibility features are available and whether someone can help you practise joining.
Technology does not always work perfectly. Check your sound, microphone or camera, and try leaving and rejoining if needed. If you still cannot get in, contact the organiser if you can. They may be able to help or tell you about another way to participate.
The Peer Connect website was created on Kaurna Country. We acknowledge the Kaurna people as the Traditional Custodians of the Adelaide Plains and pay our respects to Elders past and present. The peer groups and networks on this site extend across many other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nations and language groups throughout Australia, and we acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of those Countries and their continuing connection to land, waters and community.
This site exists for people with disability to connect, learn and thrive. No matter your background, identity or lived experience, you belong here. Welcome.
