Speak Out Advocacy

Speak Out provides individual advocacy support to people with disability and self advocacy development and training opportunities. It is a membership-based disability support organisation for people with intellectual disability and/or dual diagnoses with members throughout Tasmania. Speak Out has an extensive track record in developing self advocacy training programs and resources, consultations and innovative projects that promote the inclusion and value of people with intellectual disability in the community; and is the Tasmanian member organisation for Inclusion Australia – the National Council on Intellectual Disability. Speak Out has a dual governance structure with a Members’ Executive consisting of 7 people with disabilities and a Board of Management. Most of the Board are people with disability or carers/family members. Speak Out employs several people with disabilities. We aim to develop a respectful and inclusive community for people living with disability.

Advocacy Tasmania Inc. provides advocacy services across Tasmania to older people, people with disabilities, people with a mental health disorder, and people who use ATOD services, their carers and relatives.

The Association for Children with Disability is a state-wide organisation that works to a Family Empowerment Model, a social model that focuses on strategies by which families use assistance to identify and achieve self-defined goals. ACD is a membership-based disability support organisation that began as a support group for parents with children with disability.
